broadway in love

i absolutely loved american idol's theme tonight! andrew lloyd webber night! andrew lloyd webber is the composer of broadway musical hits such as "the music of the night" from "the phantom of the opera", and "memory" from "cats". check out wikipedia for more of his works. ;)

anyway, for the benefit of those who weren't able to catch the show tonight (calling hunny!!!), here are the clips, courtesy of youtube, in chronological order.

my bottom two - jason castro and brooke white.

jason's rendition of "memory" is blah, the song is too big for him. if that is the song to choose, i expect more drama.

for brooke, again, not her forte! at first, she sounded like she was reciting the song. but i gotta hand it to her, she knows how to show her emotions when singing. at times though, it comes of as nervousness because of her bad start off. but i think, forgetting the lyrics is much forgivable than starting off on the wrong note like she did the last time.

if forced to choose the third, it would probably be david archuleta. it was a cool rendition of "think of me" from "the phantom of the opera", but of course, i love the original arrangement way way better. :) good thing you can't hear me through this blog 'coz i've been trying to reach the high notes of this song ever since i watched the show earlier. :)

anyway, here are the clips!!!

syesha mercado - "one rock and roll too many" from "starlight express"

as always, very clean execution. she has such crystal clear voice that sometimes, i don't understand why she is always at the bottom three. but then i think that its her personality which needs a little "oomph". finally, she had an opportunity to express it. i just don't know if its a little too late, coz fans already have their own favorites. :( loved her performance. if she doesn't make it to the pop scene, broadway should embrace her then.

jason castro - "memory" from "cats"

brooke white - "you must love me" from "evita"

this is actually one of my favorite videoke songs.:)

david archuleta - "think of me" from "the phantom of the opera"

as mentioned, i liked the girl version better. this is for a soprano. but i don't think he messed it up. i just found it funny that he was really trying to keep his eyes open! haha!

carly smithson - "jesus christ, superstar" from "jesus christ, superstar"

i enjoyed this performance, but it is true that it was kind of screaming. and i don't know, some of her ad libs make me think if it is still in tune with the chords.

david cook - "the music of the night" from "the phantom of the opera"

it would be a waste though if a hottie like david cook would hide behind the phantom's mask! i loved his performance, but i didn't like the last note. wished he ended it on the second to the last note. but overall, he could still make a great phantom! :)

sad as i am, i agree with your bottom two. boohoo =C pero i still love brooke. nadadama ko kasi yung kanta sa kanya e.

i didn't like david archuleta's eaither. parang inantok ako. hahaha!

naisip ko, david cook does have a pronounced jaw. hmmmnnn...

contrary to belief, hindi naman pa-square talaga ang gusto ko. i just find guys with strong jaws sexy. nagkakataon lang na yung ganon e usually mukhang square ang ulo. hahaha!
